NFHS rules will govern play when not covered under PSL rules

GENERAL

WAIVER OF LIABILITY

  • All participants must agree to the waiver of liability. 
  • The waiver can be accepted on each participant player’s dashboard. 
  • A waiver must be signed for each league that is participated in.
  • All participants in the league assume the risk of injury. The PSL, its volunteers, and employees shall not be liable for injury to person, loss or damage to personal property arising from or in any way resulting from participation in the league.

SPORTSMANSHIP

  • Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.
  • Any behavior that is deemed violent, harassing, and/or inappropriate in any way, as witnessed by the umpire, referee, or PUMP/PSL staff, will result in the actions outlined in our Sportsmanship Policy.
  • A player who is ejected from a game must leave the premises immediately. Play will not resume until the ejected player has left the facility.
  • Officials reserve the right to end a game at any point if the overall sportsmanship is out of line.
  • Captains are to be the team liaison to discuss any call or rule with an official during game play.

 

TEAMS

SUBMITTING A ROSTER

  • Each team must submit a roster with a minimum of 5 and maximum of 12 players.
  • No player may register for more than 1 team within the same league.
  • Rosters must be submitted and a waiver form must be signed before any player may take the court.
  • Rosters must be finalized and no changes are allowed after the 2nd week of play.
  • No player who is not on your roster and signed a waiver form may play in the league.
  • Only rostered players will be eligible for playoffs.

PLAYERS

  • A team consists of 5 players. 
  • As per our Inclusivity Statement, players should register and play in the way that most closely aligns with their gender identity. 
  • A team can start play with 4 players.
  • A team may pick up a maximum of 2 players to avoid forfeit.
    • Teams may not pick up players from their scheduled opponent.
    • Any player who is used as a sub must be a current PSL participant.
    • If your team has no subs, you may pick up 2 subs.
    • If rostered players arrive late, they must be immediately inserted into lineup for the substitute players at the next dead ball situation.
  • You cannot pick up substitute players for playoffs.
  • Players must wear a PSL shirt of their teams color.
    • First offense: a team warning is issued.
    • Second offense: a team technical foul is issued, including 2 foul shots.

 

 

GAME SCHEDULE

START TIME & FORFEITS

  • All games will start at their scheduled time.
  • If a team does not have enough players to start the game by 10 minutes after the scheduled start time, they will forfeit.
  • If enough players to start the game arrive between 10 and 15 minutes after the scheduled start time, the game will be officiated and played as a scrimmage but will still be recorded as a forfeit.
  • Once 15 minutes after the scheduled start time has passed, the game is still recorded as a forfeit and the teams are allowed to use the remaining time to practice or organize a pickup game. Referees are not required to stay and officiate.
  • Teams must submit a forfeit notification when they are unable to make a scheduled game.
    • Teams who submit a forfeit notification three (3) or more hours in advance of their game will receive a 30-0 loss.
    • Teams who submit a forfeit notification one to two (1-2) hours in advance of their game will receive a 40-0 loss.
    • Teams who submit a forfeit notification with less than an hour before their game begins will receive a 50-0 loss.

GAME LENGTH

  • Playing time will be two 20-minute halves with a 3-minute half time.
  • Time will run continuously except in the following cases:
    • Team time-outs
    • Injuries
    • Official time-outs
    • The last minute of the 1st half for all whistles
    • The last 2-minutes of the 2nd half for all whistles
    • Entire overtime for all whistles

OVERTIME/EXTRA INNINGS

  • If a game ends in a tie score, a 2-minute overtime will be played.
    • If at the end of the 1st overtime the game is still tied, 2-minute overtimes will continue to be played until a winner is decided.
  • A jump ball at center court will be used to start the overtime period.
  • Each team is allowed 1 timeout per overtime.
    • Unused timeouts do not carry over to any overtime periods.
  • All fouls accumulated in the 2nd half will be carried into overtime.

 

RULES

GAME PLAY

  • The game will be started with a jump ball at center court.
  • Each team may take two 1-minute timeouts per half.
    • Unused timeouts do not carry over to the next half.
  • A team may substitute players only on a dead ball situation.
    • The substituting player must inform the score keeper that they will be entering the game on the next dead ball.
  • 3-point shots will be in effect.
  • A called foul in the act of shooting will award the player foul shots. If the shot goes in, the player will be awarded 1 foul shot. If the shot is missed, the player will be awarded 2 or 3 shots depending on the location from where the shot was taken.
  • During foul shots, players around the lane may leave their positions when the ball leaves the foul shooters hand. Players outside the 3-point line, including the shooter, may not leave their position until the ball has hit the rim.
  • The clock will stop on foul shots only in the last minute of the 1st half, the last 2 minutes of the 2nd half, and all of overtime.
  • 1-and-1 bonus will be in effect on the 7th team foul per half.
  • The double bonus (2 foul shots) will be in effect on the 10th team foul per half.
  • All fouls (including double and technical fouls) will be counted into the player and team foul tallies.
  • A player is disqualified from the game on their 5th foul.
  • Intentional or Technical fouls called by the official will result in 2 foul shots plus possession of the ball.
  • Any player who receives 2 technical fouls will be ejected from the game and subject to a 1-game suspension.
  • No dunking allowed.
  • Hanging on the rim or nets will result in a technical foul.
  • There is no mercy rule.

EQUIPMENT

  • PSL uses a Wilson Evolution Official 29.5” Indoor Basketball.

 

PLAYOFFS

SEEDINGS

  • Playoff seeds are based on win/loss record.
  • The number of teams to qualify for playoffs will vary from season to season based on the number of teams registered.

TIEBREAKERS

  • All teams tied in the standings will use the following tiebreakers, in order, to determine seeding:
    • Most regular season wins
    • Head to head
    • Least points allowed
    • Most points scored
    • Least points given up vs highest ranked common opponent
      • If teams play a common opponent an uneven amount of times, the next highest common opponent is used
      • If teams have same runs/points given up vs common opponent, the next highest common opponent is used
    • Coin toss

 

3-way tiebreakers: When 3 or more teams are tied; all teams will be ranked on the same criteria as opposed to knocking a team out then returning to the top of the tiebreaker list. Tiebreakers will be applied until all teams that are tied can be ranked using the same criteria. If the teams did not play one another in an even amount of games then “head to head” will be skipped.
