History

The team name was created to give honor to the heavily celebrated, but little known Conflagration Day.

"Although I have suffered heavily and grievously, I think that I am not broken in either body or spirit, and I hope to rise again"~ Pittsburgh resident John H. McClelland, April 27, 1845

The date of Conflagration Day is the first Saturday after the first Full Moon occurring on or after the March equinox.

Conflagration Day is a day to commemorate the Great Fire of Pittsburgh (April 10, 1845) which a third of the city was burned.

Celebrants will typically don yellow, orange or red in observance of Conflagration Day and consume alcohol in a water brigade-like fashion to put out the fires of the past, and look forward to a new and brighter future of Pittsburgh.
