Ground Rules

Below are the ground rules for softball fields we use in the spring season. If you have any suggestions to add onto the ground rules for a certain field, please email Ky.

Fineview Field Ground Rules

  • Any ball hit over the 2nd fence (red line) on a fly is an automatic out.

  • When a batted ball goes into the weeds (past yellow line), the defensive player must get at least to the fringe of the weeds and make an effort to locate the ball. If the defensive player cannot then see or safely reach the ball, he/she should then raise both hands. If the umpire can confirm that the ball clearly cannot be seen and/or reached, the umpire will rule the hit a ground rule double. This also applies to a ball that hits the glove and/or person of a defensive player trying to make a play on the ball prior to entering the weeds.

  • Any ball that hits the rock wall to the left of the white line painted on the rock (marked by the white line) is a homerun. Any ball that hits the rock wall or goes above the rock wall into the trees to the right of a white line is a ground rule double.

Gardner Field Ground Rules

  • Any ball hit over the fence is a homerun.
  • Any ball hit to the fence is all you can get, unless it rolls under the fence.
    • Any ball that rolls under the fence to the right of the light post (red) is a ground rule double. Players must raise their hands to let the umpires know the ball has gone under the fence.
    • Any ball that rolls under the fence to the left of the light post (blue) is a ground rule triple. Players must raise their hands to let the umpires know the ball has gone under the fence.
    • Any ball that goes into the weeds of the fence and stays there for a period of time will also be called a double or a triple, depending on whether it lands to the left or right of the light post.
  • Any ball hit into the basketball court is a foul ball.
